Moldova is on Course to Join the European Union

The European Union and Moldova are fully set to initial an Association Agreement (AA) and a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) at the EU’s Eastern Partnership Summit on November 28¬–29 in Vilnius, under the EU’s Lithuanian presidency. Moreover, uniquely for Moldova at the summit, the European Commission will confirm the country’s successful implementation of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan, and will recommend allowing visa-free travel to the Schengen area for Moldova’s citizens with biometric passports.

Moments like these are what make me go bat-shbt nuts about Ukrainian politics. Moldova, one of the places Ukrainians poke fun at, is going to get into the EU before they do.  By all rights, the Moldovans ought to start poking fun back.  Especially when they get back from their trip to Paris.  Or Berlin.  Or London.  Not the uber rich, "New Russians" but anyone who can muster up the minimum of funds and have a new passport.

Based on experiences Lyudmila and her mother have had, traveling on an Ukrainian passport is about as sucky as it gets.

oy.

 However, good for Moldova.
