Volcanoes!

For the next week, starting this morning and continuing through Dec 8, volcanoes will be prominently featured on the blog.  This is largely due to a journal dedicating this month to volcanic eruptions and their impacts in deep time.  However, it won't be exclusively for that reason.  So, in honor of the week of one of the biggest, most frightening events that can take place on Earth, here's a video of an eruption of a volcano in Papua New Guinea.  Wait for the shock wave.

The Next Paleo Posts

Given the limited feedback I've received, I'm working on two paleo posts.

The first is the therocephalian overview; however, the theros are more diverse than either the dicyns or the gorgons. There appear to be five clades worth detailing and that will require more work with less material than on the gorgons or the dicyns.

The second post will be on the archaen environment, if I can get to it. I am rather busy with the team phoenicia stuff these days.

Small Plea: Where to See an Oncologist?

Tender Readers:

I have someone I know that needs to see an oncologist - cancer doc - really, really bad, specifically one with a gynecology bent.

This person is not a member of my family. However, this person is someone that is not a US citizen nor do they have access to care necessary. In fact, they have been denied it for merely seeking a second opinion. It's complicated and stupid and messy. However, a Doctor's visit and treatment is needed ASAP.

Obviously, where she is has obviously replaced the Hippocratic Oath with the Hypocritical Oath.

Update: She found someone where she's at and had surgery even as I was looking for help here (and elsewhere). We'll see how she does. So, whatever Gods you pray to, please, do so.

Semi Hiatus

Due to Team Phoenicia related extra work (as well as the day job), blogging is going to be very light. This will probably continue until at least the 2nd. Alas.

A Light in the Dark: Introducing the Coherent Lighthouse

I am adding Scott E's Coherent Lighthouse to the paleo section of my blogroll. I rather like the artwork and the commentary he has up. I recommend a stop there for a general perusal. Tis good stuff in there!

BTW, what is it with Alaskans and paleo stuff anyway? Can't go outside for too many days out of the year or sumtin? ;)

Huzzah!

We're BACK! And in one piece. We had some adventures over the break[1]. Today is a bit nuts. I am going to try to post something more, but we will have to see. We survived the ubersturm in Tahoe. We had fun visiting friends. I'll see if I can put some pix up soon.

1. The Lab closes down for a week and then we took a few more days. Today is my first day back at work. It's the end of allocation year so I'll be working a bit late. It's also my 34th bday. gack! I'm OLD. It's also Second Christmas (or Orthodox Christmas. We celebrate it but pretty low key).

A very good friend of mine was pleased to call and let me know that his son was born yesterday morning. Jason and Tracy seemed to have survived the birth of Logan Dale Lowery at 7 lbs 10 oz and 19.5 in long on February 20th.

Of the cluster of NMicans that I hung out with regularly, four couples have had kids: Jared and his wife were way out in front with their daughter: I've not talked to them in a while and they were talking about a second child when last I heard from them. Lyuda and I came in second, but years later, with our daughter. Jeb and Melanie came in third with their son. Jason and Tracy are in fourth with their son. Alyssa is somewhere around four or five now. Avrora is two next week. Nathan should be one shortly. Logan is obviously just getting started. Amazing.
