Robopocalypse #22: No One Says the Robopocalypse Can't be CUTE!

a drone fly over of Apple's new campus in Cupertino.

Drones:

In this day and age of the drone, I am surprised anyone takes UFO's seriously.  In Russia, they do.  oy.

Keystone Agricultural Producers, in Canada, doesn't want the new drone regulations to handicap farmers.

The British government has teamed up with NASA to track drones.

Another drone was in restricted airspace near the Miami airport.

Drone hobbyists are claiming the FAA is way over exaggerating the near misses with drones.  I'd be inclined to agree more with the FAA.

Apparently, drones are a real problem in Britain because they are delivering or attempting to deliver drugs and other illicit goods into prisons: 150 times in 18 months.

A French company is designing 'droneports' for deliveries in Rwanda for critical supplies.

animals killing drones: I foresee a Gaian Zerg Rush!

Self Driving Cars:

Lutz has been letting people drive their Pathfinder pod.  Eventually, its intended to be a self driving vehicle.  I can't call it a car.  The Smart Car barely qualified.

Automakers want you to doubt self driving cars.  They definitely are rattled by the onrushing technology.

Why one driver is really excited about self driving cars.

A new patent by Google hints at their plans for how you will make a car go into self driving mode.

3d Printing:

3d Printing hubs grew to 22,000 by current 2015.

Toyota is working on a 3d printed car seat for their vehicles.
There is more on the giant 3d printer being made for building houses.

While laying off thousands of employees, HP is betting on 3d Printing for future growth.

3d printed fashion is becoming a thing.  And then some.  Related, there is an online class to learn how to 3d print your own jewelry.

Hershey's is experimenting with 3d printed chocolate!

You can now 3d print TACOS!

Unmanned Watercraft:

Unmanned Underwater Vehicles, aka drone subs, are going to help map Britain's deep water Marine Conservation Zone.

The Trident ROV is attempting to do the drone phenomenon underwater.

Robotics:

iRobot has released a far more advanced version of its Roomba robot floor cleaner, the 980 model.

Lessons learned from deploying robots to emergencies.

An automated greenhouse prototype is being built.

BBC delves into how the robopocalypse can help agriculture.

EET India delves into the robots and drones on the farm and their tech.

The next generation of robots need to be able to ask for help.  And place more than one link when multiple sources cover the same thing.

Volvo is interested in unleashing a purely robotic garbage truck or rather robotic assistants for the garbage truck.  Considering what I see every tuesday when I walk to the office, I'd say the only thing needed is to replace the driver, really.  There used to be a driver and a guy who dumped the trash into the truck.  Now, there's a robotic arm that grabs the trashcans.  I thought about grabbing a picture for the morning shots here and titling it "What-if the Robopocalypse was already here?"

Europe is gearing up for its own robotics challenge, the euRathalon.

Software Bots:

This is what happens when a software geek tries to use machine learning to improve his Tinder matches.

Microsoft's Cortana may be on her way into your car.

Law:

A call for the ban of sex bots has started!  I can't say I disagree with this one, to be honest.

Federal law will preempt any laws of the states with regards to drones.

In Britain the first person has been convicted of illegally flying a drone.

Economics:

Will the Robopocalypse take your job?

This articles speculates we ought to change people, everyone, from workers and consumers to investors during the robopocalypse.

Is Eatsa, the automat nouvaeu restaurant in San Francisco a shiny new future or a return to a dystopian past?  Or are people getting a little crazy with their hyperbole?

With more flogging of hyperbole, will traditional manufacturing get taken down by 3d printing?  The author draws parallels with the music industry and manufacturing.  Not sure the model is right or what has happened to the music industry is exactly accurate either.

Misc:

Meet the Robot Psychologist.

An Icelandic research institute has come up with a set of ethics for robotics research.
