Hack to the Future: Wikileaks Will be Publishing CIA Director's Hacked Emails

WikiLeaks may describe itself as an outlet for whistleblowers, but it’s never hesitated to publish stolen documents offered up by a helpful hacker, either. So it’s no surprise that it’s now leaked the pilfered files of the CIA’s director, John Brennan.

On Wednesday, the secret-spilling group published a series of selected messages and attachments from a trove of emails taken from Brennan’s AOL account. Though WikiLeaks hasn’t revealed its source, there’s little doubt the files were handed off by the self-described teen hackers calling themselves CWA or “Crackas With Attitude,” who claim to have hacked Brennan’s AOL account through a series of “social engineering” tricks.

“Today, 21 October 2015 and over the coming days WikiLeaks is releasing documents from one of CIA chief John Brennan’s non-government email accounts,” WikiLeaks writes in a simple statement. “Brennan used the account occasionally for several intelligence related projects.”

Assange Begins the Long Whiney Fall Into Irrelevancy

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange claimed in an interview published Friday that President Francois Hollande "stabbed me in the back" by rejecting his request for asylum in France.

The head of the whistleblowing website told Society magazine that France's rejection of his request in July followed discussions at the highest levels.

"There had been direct contact between Francois Hollande and me. Text messages were exchanged through my French legal advisor. The French president gave encouraging signs," Assange said, in comments translated from French.

"In a way, his (final) response was a stab in the back," Assange said.

"What pushed him to change his mind between the first exchanges and his final public response?" Assange asked.

He said: "Perhaps he wanted to look strong, not to the French, but to the United States and the United Kingdom, to be loyal to them. Publicly rejecting such a request was a way of doing that."

Wikileaks Advisor to Snowden: Unsafe to Return Home

A WikiLeaks staffer who has been accompanying Edward Snowden said Wednesday she had left Russia for Germany, but the threat of prosecution made it unsafe for her to return home to Britain.

In August, Sarah Harrison helped former US National Security Agency contractor Snowden flee Hong Kong to Russia, where he has now been granted temporary asylum from US authorities who want to prosecute him for leaking official secrets.

In a statement datelined from Berlin and issued by anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, Harrison said she had now left Snowden's side and had "arrived in Germany over the weekend".

She said that after spending 39 days with Snowden in a Moscow airport while he sought asylum, "I then remained with him until our team was confident that he had established himself and was free from the interference of any government".

But she said the detention under British anti-terror laws of David Miranda -- the partner of journalist Glenn Greenwald who landed the scoop of the Snowden leaks -- showed there was a climate of "persecution" in her own home country, Britain.

"Almost every story published on the GCHQ and NSA bulk spying programs falls under the UK government's interpretation of the word 'terrorism'," she wrote.

"In response, our lawyers have advised me that it is not safe to return home."
