Ukraine: Entrenchments and Actions

Today a lot has happened.  Though not as much as might.

Yanukovich's son says his father is alive.  Yet still hasn't made a public appearance.

The Russians captured part of one and all of another Ukrainian military base in Crimea.

The Russians have scuttled another ship to blockade the Ukrainian navy in Crimea.  or what's left there  at least.

Outside of Crimea, within the rest of Ukraine, there is a growing sense of anger towards the Russians.  Putin may have given a gift to Ukraine to unify it.  The oligarchs are even working with Kiev to pull Ukraine together.

On the other hand, the Russian occupation and probable attempt at annexation is VERY popular in Russia.  Putin keeps talking about East and Southern Ukraine in the same manner as Crimea.  This isn't done spreading.  This is going to get messier.

The IMF has said Kiev is apparently VERY earnest in its desire for reform and is very positive about the loan.  There is talk of an immediate bridge loan while the

The US and EU are arguing over the sanctions.  The US is likely to move quickly with a bunch.  Europe slower and with less.  It might target specific people rather than blanket ones like the US.

The OSCE keeps getting turned away at a post into Crimea.

Quote attributed to Putin for today:

"...and God forbid if any of the servicemen tries to shoot their own people, we will be standing behind them - not in front, but behind.  Let they try to shoot women and children."
So says the man sending soldiers to protect people in Crimea.
