Whose Bright Idea?!

Who suggested that synapsida should be known as theropsida?! We already have therapsida. I have now seen this twice, but it doesn't seem very common. What's going on?!

It seems like the perfect way to just confuse things.

Can any of the pros that read this explain?

I've only seen this in the past couple weeks.

That's actually something I've seen too, but I don't know how widespread it is. Actually, I don't know how inclusive the term "therapsid" is, either. Is "therapsid" the synapsid equivalent of "thecodont," or are all synapsids after a certain point (including modern ones) therapsids?

OR does "therapsid" include those synapsids which are closer to true mammals than any other synapsid group (like gorgons) but are not themselves mammals?
